Collection: Don Bell
Don Bell is a self-taught visual artist and Emmy Award-winning journalist. His work focuses on - but is not limited to - amplifying the richness and complexity within communities of color.
Born in Jersey City, NJ to a Jamaican immigrant father and a mother from the Jim Crow South, Bell draws upon his blended cultural background as a catalyst to create narratives of representation. He uses portraiture, street, drone and other photographic genres as vehicles to deliver imagery steeped in unapologetic truth. Bell is intrigued by the range of emotions that exist under the protective armor we create to navigate life from hope and heartbreak to fulfillment and fear. His goal is to capture subjects that feed our curiosity while allowing us to inquire without worry, and more importantly, grow through understanding and exposure.
Bell is currently exhibiting at No Name Gallery in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia.
When he is not creating, Bell steps in front of the camera as the lead sports anchor and sports director at CBS News Philadelphia. Prior to that, he anchored SportsCenter and other shows on ESPN and Fox Sports One. Bell earned two undergraduate degrees from Boston University and a Masters from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism.
Bell currently lives in Philadelphia with his wife Krystle and their son, Pepper - who happens to be a cat.
