Her practice evolved through diverse creative fields—including editorial design, printmaking, and photography—before expanding into independent work and large-scale projects. After emigrating in 2017, drawing and painting became tools for introspection, leading her to develop a visual language that balances abstraction and emotion, influenced by nature, human experience, and spatial awareness. Her work explores the translation of ideas, spaces, and narratives into expressive visual forms. Zapata has exhibited in Bogotá, Philadelphia, and New York, and has created murals and conceptual commissions.
