Before the Exhale (2026)
Description
Artist: Morgan Overton
Size: 8x10" original
Medium: Colored Pencil, Gold Leaf
Before the Exhale considers breath as both a biological necessity and a metaphor for liberation. Throughout history, Black existence has often been shaped by the demand to endure, perform, and persist. Rather than depicting resistance itself, the figure is held within an expansive field of light and negative space, inviting viewers to consider stillness as an essential act of restoration. In this imagined future, breath is no longer interrupted by fear and it becomes an affirmation of presence.
