Collection: Make You Feel That Way

Make You Feel That Way

Some moments don’t need a camera — they’re felt deep in your chest. The quiet kind of joy that sneaks up on you when life feels good for no big reason. A crisp haircut and a good day’s work. That first bike on Christmas morning. The sound of your favorite song through cheap speakers that still somehow hit just right.

“Make You Feel That Way” is an exhibition about those fleeting, perfect seconds — the ordinary and the divine, the spiritual in the simple. Inspired by the lyrics of Blackalicious, this show explores the art of appreciation: gratitude, nostalgia, and connection through everyday life.

Cathey White and Don Bell capture the essence of this feeling through two distinct yet deeply intertwined perspectives.

White, an artist, educator, and native Philadelphian, finds poetry in the overlooked corners of her city. Her canvases are layered like the neighborhoods themselves — color, texture, and time stacked in rhythm — each mark a story, each composition a love letter to Philadelphia’s raw beauty. Through her work, White reminds us that wonder is everywhere, if you know how to look.

Bell, a self-taught street and portrait photographer, finds the extraordinary in the ordinary. His mixed media photography works capture people and the spaces that hold them — the quiet resilience, the subtle gestures, the unscripted moments that make up real life. Whether or not a figure appears in frame, his art speaks to presence — to the relationship between people and place, and the emotional texture of being alive.

Together, White and Bell turn the familiar into something sacred. Their work honors the simplicity of feeling. This exhibition is an invitation to pause, reflect, and remember the small things that make you feel that way.
