The Tides is a layered mixed-media work by Samara Weaver that combines watercolor and translucent trace paper within an old wooden drawer, refashioned by the artist into a frame. The history and weight of the found wood contrast with the delicacy of the paper and watercolor held inside it.
Layers of color and transparency evoke the movement of water—shifting, overlapping, retreating, and returning. The repurposed drawer adds another layer of memory to the work, transforming an object that once held physical things into one that now holds something less tangible. Through material, movement, and repetition, Weaver considers the currents that connect us to memory, relationships, time, and place.
