Collection: Natalie Hope McDonald Poetry Vessels

My poetry vessels are made from upcycled materials. I like the idea of using materials that already exist in the world and can be recycled in a more sustainable way. I’m also interested in writing text and words on sculptural forms. Most of these newest vessels are memorials to important Black artists including Jean-Michel Basquiat, James Baldwin and Billie Holiday, as well as jazz and hip hop greats. One of the pieces is a poem I wrote reflecting the times we live in. The materials range from glass and wood to ceramic and metal. I use gesso and oil paint and freehand these in a way that keeps a flow that reflects the poetry and music that moves me.
