Over the past few months I’ve been working on small paintings that encapsulate the
experiences I’ve had in my personal life. They’re inspired by time, place, loss and change, each one painted to express a memory, a very brief moment in time.

They span the country, from New York to Los Angeles, and are heavily influenced by the warmer seasons, the people I know and time I’ve spent alone. I think of them as visual poems. They express powerful little stories about both big and small moments that shape our lives, each adding up to one large piece that symbolizes the passage of time and all the feelings that can accumulate. The works were carefully hung as a single installation so that each small painting builds upon the next to create a whole, a singular vision made up of 100 individual moments thatcan stand alone or in small groups.

I wanted collectors to become part of the process, of how the installation is shaped overtime. As each piece is purchased and taken away, empty spaces will be purposely left onthe wall. They represent the people and places we may miss, but still remember. In many ways the blank spaces become just as important as the ones that are filled.

My own year has been filled with gratefulness and grief, sadness and success. I want this installation, this large project made up of individual pieces, to ultimately express the range of emotions we all tend to have, often simultaneously. They can be complicated and beautiful, noisy and calm. This is my world.

You, the collector, are as much a part of this experience as I’ve been as the painter. This
collective is meant to be shared among friends and strangers. It’s meant to be broken apart so that people can take the small paintings with them and yet still be connected to each other. We all come from this same place. We are in it together. As we leave with parts of the whole, hopefully we’ll all feel a little less alone.
